A 17th Century Napoleonic Chateau

Château Castalia is a 17th Century chateau that stands on the site of the castle of the old lords of Cressier. Its present appearance dates to 1665, when Ferdinand of Diesbach had the old building renovated. The building took its final form in 1780, when a lower wing was added to the west side of the manor house. The chateau was owned by the de Reynold family for 272 years, the most famous of whom was the historian and poet Gonzague de Reynold, who wrote most of his many books and poems here in the chateau.

The chateau was purchased by the present owners in 2021 and rechristened Château Castalia, after the mythical country described by Swiss author Herman Hesse in his award-winning novel entitled The Glass Bead Game.
